24 hours ago the new 34-61 was put in service and now it responded on it's first call. Firefighter Emily Mesnick drove the new 34-61 on the first call. The new truck was purchased from the Clearwater Township Fire Department in Rapid City, Michigan. Members drove to Michigan to inspect the truck. After a thorough inspection, it was decided to purchase the truck and it was driven back to Westbrookville. Since the purchase, the truck was given all new brakes and shocks. Some emergency lighting was upgraded to LED. Scotty Signs did another fantastic job lettering the truck. Members trained on the driving and operation of the truck.
Upgrades from the retired Rescue was a big reason we purchased this truck. The new truck has a 10kw Harrison hydraulic generator, 3000w light tower, multiple power outlets, 250' electric rewind cord reel, rear winch, walk around Rescue with multiple rollout/tip down shelves, seats 5 with 3 SCBA seats and the truck is 4 wheel drive. We plan to remount the body within the next 7 years. We will be able to remount the truck on a new chassis, upgrade lighting and repaint the truck at a fraction of the price a new Rescue like this would cost. This is just another way our firefighters are putting good apparatus in service for the community with reasonable spending.
