At 23:47hrs during the height of a Nor'Easter with blizzard conditions, Station 34 was dispatched to a structure fire on Pine Kill Road in the area of Upper Pine Kill Road. 34-11 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke pushing out of the front door of the house. A second alarm was sounded and 34-1 called Tankers from Otisville and Wurtsboro. The fire was found in a back room in the structure. After getting the residents out of the house, the crew from 34-11 stretched one CAFS 1.75" line through the front door. The fire was quickly knocked down and the walls and ceiling were pulled. A second CAFS 1.75" line was ordered to the second floor and the crew checked for extension. With the fire knocked down, 34-1 had the mutual aid Tankers go to Station 34 for stand by duty. Crews did extensive overhaul and helped the residents salvage property in the room.
Working smoke detectors woke the residents. Having working detectors saved lives and kept the property damage to a minimum.
34-1, 34-2, 34-11, 34-31, 34-61, BC-5, Wurtsboro 39-31 and Otisville 145 responded. All units were back in service at 03:00hrs.
