Brandt Road Structure Fire
Tue. Mar 12th 2019

At 18:48hrs Station 34 was dispatched to a Structure Fire on Brandt Road. Control Advised 34-1 there was a smoke condition in the house, the caller stated an electrical sound was heard in the wall and they advised the resident to evacuate. 34-11 arrived on scene, 34-1 had 34-31 hold at the bottom of a long driveway. The crew on 34-11 found a moderate smoke condition on the 1st floor. The resident stated there was a loud electrical sound behind the stove and then the room filled with smoke. As the crew began to investigate with the TIC and move the electric stove, the crew found smoke coming out of a cabinet below the sink. The TIC found heavy heat on the floor of the lower cabinet. 34-1 radioed to 34-3 that there was a small fire in the kitchen. 34-51 arrived on scene and the crew assisted 34-11. The floor of the cabinet was removed with the irons and a small fire was found around a kick heated that was extinguished with the can. The crew checked the basement for extension and shut off the utilities to the kitchen. SC FIs and the Town Building Inspector were called to the scene. The crews ventilated the structure and found no extension. It was determined the kick heater shorted out and started a small fire under the cabinets.

Otisvillle was on stand by at Station 34 with a Tanker and all units were back in at 21:15.

34-1, 34-3, 34-11, 34-31 and 34-51 responded.
